Baseball Travel Overview

Players must participate in the Summit Baseball Recreational Program (or an equivalent Summit program) in the spring to be eligible for any season of baseball travel.

Spring season

Typically USABL play (sometimes varies by age level); the commitment is one game day per week (typically Sundays with some flexibility between coaches) and one practice.

This year, the season opening day was 4/7 and guaranteed 9 regular season games + 1 guaranteed playoff game (all teams make the playoffs; single elimination).

Typically one double header per season

Ripken districts: Maroon teams will play in the Ripken district tournament, we are District 12 (Cranford, Scotch Plains, Milburn, Berkley Hights, Westfield, etc.)

Timing is different each year in each age group but generally ~4 game pool play mid/late June, lasting ~2 weeks

Typically two teams from each age group advance to states

Summer season

New Providence Green League (NPGL) which kicks off mid June and runs through mid/late July.

  • Typically weeknights only
  • One practice per week, 2-3 games per week.
  • 10 game season and postseason tournament for all teams that play a minimum of 8 games.

Fall tryouts are June 4 this year and teams will be communicated after the Spring/Summer season around the end of July.

Since Fall is not “baseball season”, there are typically larger teams knowing various other sports are in season

Practices are also once a week and one game day per week, also USABL play (typically Saturdays).

Expect the unexpected with NJ fall weather

The season kicks off right after Labor Day, with 9 regular season games and 1 guaranteed playoff game.

Typically one double header per season

Play wraps up by the end of October.
